Light Tank M1.
The extreme rear position of the turret of the M1 light tank was necessary due the the forward position of the engine. The driver was seated right beneath the turret, and had to look out over the tank's glacis. The crew would have access to two 1 quart (1L) Pyrene fire extinguishers. The unsprung link type suspension is hidden by the skirting plates. One 12-volt battery provided electrical storage. (Picture from Development of Armored Vehicles, volume 1: Tanks.)
The combination gun mount T1 is seen from the left. The guns were suspended via gimbals, with elevation accomplished by a yoke attached by horizontal pivots to a flanged plate bolted to the turret front. This yoke had vertical pivots that permitted some traverse in the mount. The breech guard featured a shoulder rest that helped the gunner when aiming, and a telescope was situated on the left of the mount.
