LVTR7 was the recovery variant of the LVTP7 family. The weapons station was replaced with a vision cupola, and a portable electric welder, air compressor, portable AC generator, and various tools were stored inside. A 30,000lb (14,000kg) winch was placed on the LVTR7's top rear, and a 6000lb (3000kg) boom crane was installed on the vehicle just behind the engine, the controls and operator seat for which were attached to the right side of the crane.
